"Also, look for giveaway speech patterns. Interrogation specialist Stan Walters listens for telltale phrases that suggest his subject is working overtime to appear credible. When someone emphasizes a statement by saying, “Honestly,” “Believe me,” “Frankly,” “Trust me,” “You’re not going to believe this,” or “Why would I lie?” he’s telling you that he doesn’t really believe his own words."

@4meAndyou I do agree with that...BUT it is not entirely true in all situations or with all people...as many of those words and phrases or often part of localized speech and dialect depending on where the person is or is from. It's good advice, but also not 100% reliable. You have to use discretion and common sense when following it.

Not without prior knowledge of them. That would be crazy, right?

@SimplyTracie Yup. I do occasionally resort to it myself hoping they aren't aware it's me scraping the bottom of my barrel of arguments... 😎
Edit: sorry about the unfortunate conflation of 'to' and 'it' to 'tit' (now correctit!). An absolute mastike, I assure you. I made a bit of a boob. 😂

It doesn't matter to me what they say or don't say. I'll trust them if I trust them, not because they tell me to 😁

'I swear on my cousin's dead cat' is probably even worse than 'trust me'
Valentine · M
