Have you ever started what you intended to be a small project and it kinda... blew up?

As in became a lot bigger than initially intended. Not physically exploded. How do you usually react?

I started a little game design project I intended to be like a few dozen pages and it has quickly turned into what will likely be a full 200+ page rulebook with possible later further expansion pieces. Not even bothered or intimidated, just amused at myself for biting off so big a chunk of work on a whim. 馃槀 I think it's safe to say I have no shortage of ambition.

Next stage at some point - if you haven't done so - is the blurb - like a book. The hook that means people want to dive in. Then, the plain english, simple, getting started overview, so people can be immersed and enjoying it so that they WANT to read through 200 pages.
Otherwise product developers will look at it and think of all the people who will think, nah, my life is too busy for that complexity.

@Abstraction It's important to have a gripping title, tagline and summary as far as marketability goes yeah. This is just a side project though, for shits and giggles. I'm not slacking on any of it in any case and it won't be a bad portfolio piece when it's done.
Every project I've had, ever.

That's awesome! Having big plans is one thing, but being able to execute them well, too, is totally different. Go you.
