Unemployment and job hunting

In your opinion or perspective, can you explain why most people look down at you, judge, and make you feel bad when you’re unemployed, job hunting, and interviewing?
Thingschange4444 · 51-55, M
It's simple really. Our governments flood our countries to exploit cheap foreign labour. Then in the UK they put crap like benefits streels on where a few idiots air their lives out. That makes the working person feel cheated and then u get division in communities. They rely on division of all types. Racial. Religious. Gender even. So we never band together to fight that common enemy. I seen through it all a long time back. I used to be part of it myself looking down on those unemployed. Some chose to but many don't and I see it all for what it really is. Diversion tactics.

@Cat05 Very very smart person. I bow to your wisdom. And hey I've been told I'm a old soul ☺ And yes I have to sit around people and listen to their mainstream views whilst inside my head I'm just sighing and thinking omg. You are in for such a shock.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
@Thingschange4444 Thank you and you are as well. :) ohhhh, I feel you’re an old soul from afar. I just feel it. People will always try and find ways to change the system, but it will never work because the government will never listen to the citizens of a country. They will only do what they want and choose to do what they want under their own selfish beliefs. It’s rarely about the people and sadly enough, it’s very rare to have a political leader who have actual sincere compassion for the people besides historic figures like Abraham Lincoln and Alexander Hamilton. They’re just wasting their own time of debating their mainstream views and not realizing that it will never change. It’s only going to get worse unless one day miraculously, there will be someone incredibly sincere, compassionate, and super-heroic.
Thingschange4444 · 51-55, M
@Cat05 It would be amazing to see someone sincere leading but it seems leaders are selected rather than elected. You have learned a lot in ur young life. I was gone 40 before I began to see the light. I was living that blissful ignorant life.

I haven't experienced much of that from people who are still of working age (though there was one person who seemed to wonder why I was out of a job). Most of the people who have looked down on me for being unemployed have been older people (probably from the World War II generation, aka "The Greatest Generation"), who have long since retired. They got jobs during a time when it was much easier to get a job, and the process was much simpler and more straightforward. Many of them worked the same job throughout the entire course of their careers, or at least worked for the same company, perhaps getting promoted a couple of times.

These people have no idea what it's like to have to look for a job now. They seem to assume that it's just as easy now as it was then, and that anyone who is unemployed for more than a few weeks must just be lazy or have something the matter with them. I think most of that generation has died off now, but there are still probably a few left. I don't know how many people younger than that feel that way. Perhaps some do. They just don't know what it's like to have to get a new job now.

Then I honestly think it’s bullsh*t of women to act like they’re “supportive” and “collaborative” with each other as women, lol... considering the #metoomovement. No offense! Lol. Sorry, that article that you mentioned baffles me because it’s so sad that women can be more fiercely competitive. Ridiculous. I guess I should just be around men then. Less stress and hair pulling. 😹😹😹@TeresaRudolph71
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@Cat05 Haha yes, I agree that it's probably rather rare to find women who are truly supportive and collaborative, especially at the same company or in the same industry. Some are, but not all. Yes, definitely watch out. You wouldn't want to find yourself in a nasty catfight.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
Energetically, most of them eventually try to compete with me when really I am just neutral like a man who are simple creatures. 😹🤣@TeresaRudolph71
Smokey · 46-50, M
That's not my experience
Cat05 · 36-40, F
You’re lucky to not experience society looking down at you then lol
Smokey · 46-50, M
@Cat05 screw society lol
Cat05 · 36-40, F
😹😹😹
Backwoodsman2 · 70-79, M
Really never felt that most people were like that. Of course, there are some people who would do that. Stay strong and don't let the bad seeds get to you
trackman11 · 61-69, M
That's a good question. I would hope they wouldn't and don't understand why they would, but it is your experience, so obviously they do. :)
I wonder if it's not so much looking down and not knowing how to connect. Sometimes we can be uncomfortable with someone who is struggling with any area of life, because we are so worried about saying the wrong thing. Of course that is silly, but I have been guilty of that.
In any case, good luck with the job hunt, don't settle (I know. that may be incredibly hard) and thank you for not giving up. You have a lot to offer.
dempe · 26-30
A lot of people look down on me because of my nationality and the university I graduated from (not well-known) when I'm applying for jobs.

I'm always honest during interviews though and I don't really care about what people have to say about my unemployment, job hunting, or about me during interviews. I do what I have to do. :D
Cat05 · 36-40, F
@dempe you’re still young and you have so much ahead of you. :)
Serenitree · F
Hmmm, they forget to look at you and think how lucky they are to be employed, and to hope they won't be in your place someday soon.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
@Serenitree I totally agree. They also take things for granted. Nothing lasts forever though. Nothing good, nothing bad. Sometimes their jobs can be taken away unexpectedly.
Serenitree · F
@Cat05 And they often are. Through no fault of their own, they are
*down-sized* or made redundant, and that's it they're out of work.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
@Serenitree right. I feel like in this economy, it makes the employment much tighter and competitive. More like a lottery ticket than a job these days. I feel like many people look at you with six eyes from just because you’re unemployed and looking, you’re not worthy of a human being or friend.
I thought that once and I was mistaken.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
Can you tell me about your story? I would love to read it. You can message if you don’t feel comfortable posting it here. If not, I totally understand.@Mondayschild
@Cat05 I was laid off from a construction business that later closed down. Finding jobs in this small town can be close to impossible. Then I got sick and couldn't work but now I am selling jewelry so I'm ok.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
@Mondayschild I hope you don’t mind me asking this, but how old were you when this happened? It sounds like you were experiencing the Saturn Return to universally push to do what you love to be doing- jewelry.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
Many people including friends. Lucky that you haven’t. Stay employed. @Notmesam
@Cat05 What is your profession?
Cat05 · 36-40, F
It’s called none of your business. @Notmesam
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
It’s the same when you are single.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
@MrBrownstone very very true. Wow. I never thought about that. When I had single friends, I encouraged them and gave them my advice, struggles, and experiences. I guess I realized not everyone is like that. Not everyone can sense the feelings of what others go through.
I wasn’t aware that they did. My situation’s a little different, though. I want to go back to working full time after having retired early from a 34 year career. Intelligent people shouldn’t judge before they fully understand another’s circumstances, or afterwards, for that matter. 🤔
Cat05 · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard I totally agree. 100%. Intelligent people shouldn’t.
Trupt · 36-40, F
I guess,it's because that's their job to monitor others stuffs.
Cat05 · 36-40, F
@Trupt lol, how so?
