Do you ever feel like not talking to people?

I enjoy talking, and I enjoy working, but I hate doing both simultaneously, as I feel it compromises the quality of both actions. Does anyone else experience this? How do you continue working, while still making the other person feel valued?

I don't. Well, it was okay when I had my house cleaning job. Chatting with the home owner was fine...but in an office setting it's requires your full attention.

I only had one client when I was cleaning, who insisted on starting to talk and then walking away while talking, causing me to follow her so I could hear her. Eventually I had to explain that I was charging by the hour. I could finish her house in three hours, but had to charge her for five or six, because she wouldn't let me get on with the work. She started leaving me alone so I could do the job.

I stop what I'm doing to talk to them if whatever I'm working on can wait... I don't always feel like talking, but I make an effort to connect with people when I can. The work will always be there, but the people may not.
