Is it still appropriate to talk to someone trustworthy when things go wrong?

...because I keep getting the idea that when I do, people start giving advice when I don't need it (right now, advice is fine). Or they make assumptions and shun my character without taking the time to understand where I'm coming from. If that's not enough, they get upset when I don't approach them due to past experience.

If you don't want advice but need help go to counselling they don't advise they help you work through your issues yourself. It doesn't seem to me you are talking to the right kind of people. Seems like a no win situation. Just don't speak about problems to them anymore it stops giving them opportunity to shun your character. If they get upset when you don't tell them simply say you are working things out for yourself and thank them.

@Cutiepi23 In such cases, I try. This is part of the reason why I go back to being silent. Like you said, it's a no-win.
