Give me your tired, your poor... In today's standings.. what does this mean?

Hard not to come at this cynically. I mean, the world was always fucked up. We look at how fucked up it is now but old books tell us they used to burn your ass if you let your ankle show and you missed a day at church or theyd whip you to death for trying to read a word if you're the wrong color. And pyramids and crusades and all that jazz. Idk. Seems like there are the fortunate few and a lot of narratives for everyone else whilst their getting their teeth kicked in

Depends who you ask. To the extreme conservative hypocrite who never takes a man's charity but expects God to give him everything he wants, it means nothing, as they figure they possess all they need in life to survive so be damned to their fellow man. But to the extreme liberal hypocrite, it means a chance to make a fuss, give a penny and lend a hand so they can feel better about the fact they've never been able to get over the simple truth that nobody thinks they're as clever or interesting as they do.

The basic truth though is that helping overs helps ourselves, in the long run, and that it can fulfil the needs of both the selfish and the selfless.

I just really think a lot of people should take time to think how they might not even exist if the US didn't take so many with open arms when their ancestors arrived.

It means give me your tired and poor. Legally.
