Do you have a favorite psychological phenomenon?

Things like reverse psychology, the Tetris effect, stuff like that.
I personally think the backfire effect is super cool. 馃憤

Savant syndrome.
Seen many folk with development disabilities demonstrate incredible skills in certain areas. From mathematics to art.

@CuriousMind:
I once had a client. Early 30's. Been wrongly diagnosed as having Aspergers.
He would go quiet for days and say nothing. Then hear a conversation or maybe even a news report on the radio and immediately give a very decent analysis of the problem with the statements he heard !
Somedays he'd just sit at a table with pens and paper and not touch anything. Then later he'd be in the kitchen and where somebody had spilled flour or sugar on a surface, he'd create these amazing pictures just using his fingers and imagination !

@Picklebobble2: I always say we all have a different type of intelligence.

@CuriousMind:
There's so much we don't know about how the mind works, despite endless study.
Does irritate me a little when folk 'diagnose' themselves, thereby making their unusual behaviour totally 'rational.'

The Halo Effect is when a general impression of a person influences others' perceptions of their character. People who are rated as more attractive and likable will have more favorable ratings of their overall character, personality traits, and actions. In legal settings a person who is attractive is less likely to be convicted. Those rated as attractive are also rated as more intelligent, trustworthy, and reliable. An example is when a celebrity who is attractive is perceived by the public to be likable and friendly although their true character is ultimately unknown.

@NeloAngelo: I also love the placebo effect! Especially crazy how it still works, even when people know they're taking placebos.
