Why do employers try to find fault?

I work 2 jobs and am very contentious at both. I'm getting so tired of the fact that when we have a monthly performance meeting they are picking the most minor things to critique.
Why do managers do this? Today after telling me that I had 86 good reviews this month she ends with telling me that I need to sound more confident because I'm conveying hesitancy. Well Im being recorded while working and Im trying to do my best. Sheesh

Even when they praise, they soon have to follow up with something about how you are screwing up.

My advise to anyone is - don't show them your full potential because then they will expect it all the time. "Full potential" for anything is not sustainable anyways.

They are going to pick at SOMEthing no matter what. Not sure why.

I just figure if I have not been told to leave yet, I must be doing something right.
I am one of those who is just there for a paycheck. I "meet expectations" and that is good enough for me.

@CestManan I hate this idea because I am a perfectionist at heart but you are damn right and every so often I need to remind myself that Im not there to obtain praise or to be the best in their eyes.
I'm only there for $$$$$$

Yeah performance reviews are more about Supervisors and Managers justifying their own positions.

Illustrating to middle management they’re on top of things and have notified the workforce of areas with supposed room for improvement.

Stupid 80’s American corporate culture nonsense that some companies still cling to.

@Picklebobble2 I agree. But this company is supposed to be young and hip. Techie remote work. I thought that I was away from that mindset

@REMsleep Just keeping you on your toes and justifying it to middle-management.

When the job market improves look for something better. I would.

Typical for me, it's always something.
I got called into my bosses office tonight because yesterday morning, I went to the parking lot for 5 lousy minutes to start my old truck and warm it up before leaving a half hour later. And they wonder why I have an attitude today...🙄

@Montanaman Everyones comments for the last few minutes have been labeled as nudity or fetish.
Have we been hacked? Lol
They can kiss butt. Do you work as a prisioner? Sheesh

@REMsleep lol 😆I didn't even notice till now 🤪

I think it's partly to motivate you to get better and also as self preservation. If they report up the chain that there are no improvements to be made then that makes their job a little more redundant.
updown2020 · 61-69, M
Well some bosses are just like that. Maybe you should ask that . And point out people do nt work well if they are always being picked on.
Sweetpoison · 36-40, F
It is just in their mentality, cause they probably fear that if they only compliment you you will stop doing your best.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
Monthly reviews sound crazy tbh... It sounds more like a technique to keep you scared!
CestManan · 46-50, F
@ozgirl512 It shouldn't though because I am guessing most of us already know pretty much verbatim what the review is going to say.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@ozgirl512 It remote work so for one hour each month the manager must shadow your online calls and video feed and critique you.
Im not great with on the spot monitoring
Do you get to critique the company as well?
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@Justafantasy Not really but they are always " open to feedback"
I used to have a different manager and he was so easy peasy. I miss him and honestly Im not doing a better job under more criticism
scorpio611 · 41-45, MVIP
Did your Managers appreciate you ?
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@scorpio611 Yeah. I just work so hard to avoid critique that I get triggered when its relatively minor like come on my voice sounds hesitant on that one call?
scorpio611 · 41-45, MVIP
@REMsleep That is ok. You can sail with it girl. Look at the good part, you are being appreciated for the majority of your work :)
Justenjoyit · 56-60, M
I feel sorry for you there is actually
a system like this in place at your place of work.
