What is 'edging'

Seen a reference to something called 'edging' which I presume is something related to sex?

What is it, what's it all about, and why is it important (if at all)?

Coming close or an orgasm and stopping and keep going and stopping until you finally orgasm. It takes a lot of self control but is amazing when you finish
