Have you lost trust in other people?

I use to trust others and always try to see the good in people. However as time passed I began to realize most (not all) people often think about themselves. These experiences have been a blessing in disguise. It helped me rely more on myself, rather than others.

I treat life like an onion.

I trust blindly with the outer layer.

The closer the core, the harder it is to earn my trust.

For people to be a bit selfish is completely rational and not a sign of unethical behavior. When people brazenly challenge conventional civility and take advantage of earned trust in a deceitful way... this is rare.

I find trust easier as I get older... I'm just increasingly selective.

It's never been my default position to trust people - how much I start off trusting someone depends on context and will go up and down based on what I learn by engaging with them over a period of time.
It's important to realize a lot of the world is just limping along like we sometimes are. We can't ask for what they haven't got.
