Is it bad for someone to be Cold?

"Expecting the world to be fair with us because we are fair, is like expecting the lion not to eat us because we didn't eat him"

These are words that I now live by everyday of my life. You see the problem with having a good heart is thinking that others have one as well. I've become a very cold and anti-social person, mainly due to being screwed over by people who I thought were my friends. I now understand that nowadays most people (not all) look out for themselves. Seems like greed and pride has poisoned people's hearts.

I've been told by many people that I've become cold and anti-social. I don't see it as such. I just decided to focus on myself and do the right things for the right people. I've gotten so sick and tired of living for people who don't appreciate it. A quote I found in a book I was reading was " Don't pay attention to what people say, but what they do" meaning words are cheap. Which I completely agree with.

Living in a place like NYC I feel you have to be cold at times. After all this city is really cold. Reminds me of the song Shattered by the Rolling Stones.

When it becomes a home I think it can hinder us from achieving our greatest potentials.

And I think the greatest of all is the ability to love without needing to be loved back.

Edit- I needed to add this, being numb/ cold/ distant is a natural response to betrayal. You don't have to force yourself out of it. It takes time to move on.
