Should I open up to my family?
They always see me as a mystery. I really just want to tell them everything in hopes that they can understand me better. Tired of getting chewed out and being misunderstood.

depends what you're opening up about.
There are many aspects of my life, experiences, etc. that they just couldn't possibly comprehend.
It's like discussing military life/deployment/combat with a civilian... if they were never there for themselves, they have no context of understanding
