What are your thoughts on court house weddings?

TexChik · F
It’s the smart play . Why waste $35K on a wedding ? Use that to help buy a house or pay of a bill or two .

I would have one. Weddings have become an over-the-top, overpriced circus, that's devoid of all meaning. I would find it more romantic to just go to the courthouse or small church, look into each other's eyes, and make our vows in private.
Once the papers are signed by the bride and groom you are married. Basically, most marriages happen in a courthouse. All the wedding crap is just extra fluff.

Don’t see what it matters if it’s truly about the marriage and not the show boaty expensive traditional crap everyone does

My wife and I were married in a church...but it wasn't entirely our idea. We just wanted a simple small ceremony with just family and a few close friends. It started spiraling out of our control and became much bigger than we had wanted. Don't get me wrong, we had a really nice wedding and the whole thing did not exceed $2000 (wedding and reception)...but it is not what we had originally wanted, and we would have gladly gone to a Justice of the peace. It was all about the ceremony being performed and about our marriage itself. I see no problem with anyone just wanting to go to the courthouse to get married if that is what they want. We have often said that though we don't regret having the wedding we did, if we had to do it all over again we'd just go to the courthouse.
I think they are more serious about getting married

@SStarfish I don't get what point you're making here...People who get married in a church by a preacher, have an outdoor wedding married by anyone who is legally authorized to perform weddings, or married by a ship's captain while on a cruise at sea can be just as serious about it as those who go to the courthouse and get married by a judge. If the "seriousness" is implied by the legality of being married by a judge is what you're saying, a couple still has to have a legal marriage license to be married b a preacher.

I wouldn't have a problem with that if I wanted to be married.
