I need to buy a vehicle, and I am extremely apprehensive.

I've been without one for so long, I've gotten used to it. Even living rural, I still get around when I need to. Bus lines, friends, hitch hiking, and I never been too bothered by walking to where I need to get to locally, to work even. Which is a half hour walk each way. Plus, the lack of financial tie down that owning a vehicle would entail, has certainly freed up for me, after the cost of living, what I would consider.. "disposable income".. smokable at least. And hey, go me.. living without a car in a time when they are destroying our planet.

But..

*sigh*

I can now afford to buy, well.. a beater. I am reluctant. I have mixed emotions right now. About my life, and what it all means to me.

I bought a new, used car a few months ago. It was a HUGE step for me after having my previous one for 16 years. I selected something I'd love to drive: heated leather seats, sunroof, etc. It's definately a major upgrade. I have payments after not having them for a very long time but I love my car and grateful to have it. It's especially nice to have a car that properly heats in the winter and AC will work in the summer.

I wish you luck.

Have you thought about a bicycle instead?
If you are comfortable with how you get around now, do you really need one?

It will become a headache down the road. Buy a used but decent reliable car.

It seems that you are overthinking it.
