Is there a part of your culture you fear people will misunderstand?

For me, I see a lot of nordic runes and religion being coopted by white supremacists. It pisses me off and I'm afraid that one day I'll be lumped in with them in people's minds.

Well, yeah. If asked what a swastika means, I don't think the majorty would say it's a sun symbol of good fortune and prosperity in Hinduism.

@Straylight haha exactly dear

@Gangstress The othala [image deleted] means "honour the roots" and I think I want it as a tattoo. Unfortunately, it's also a stand in swastika for neo nazis.

@Straylight argh. Damn them. I think still get it but with that slogan below

Oh definitely. I personally try to treat and view people as individuals, even if they identify themselves as part of a group. Why? Because we are individuals. You can’t expect billions or thousands to all think, live and act the same. It’s just not logical. I know people of the same faith as me who I couldn’t be further apart from. If people took time to understand others on an individual level maybe we wouldn’t have as much hate as we do.

@NickiHijab Preach it!

I don’t think it’s my duty to explain anything about my culture to others..if they wanna make an uneducated judgement, be my guest. With a little research,all of their questions can be answered

@Bagalamaga Good attitude.

Happens constantly, I don't see the point in trying to correct them. It's easy to take offense or fall in with preconceived notions. Far harder to actually try and understand. They will make the effort if they want to.

Yeah, in my early teens it made really insecure about my identity on the internet, but I stopped bothering later on, they’re grown adults, it’s their choice to be ignorant
Asia has a lot of weird customs and traditions that westerners are having a hard time understanding

I'm part Israeli that makes some people mad no matter what
Straylight · 31-35, F
@Neurotoxin That's sad. Regardless of their opinion, it's nothing you've personally done.
