What’s your philosophy?

Today I walked past a woman smoking a cigarette outside. Another man joined her and she started talking to the man saying how she would never quit smoking even though it can cause cancer. Her reasoning being when it’s her time to go, it’s her time to go. Nothing she can do in her life will change the outcome. So, is your thinking similar to the woman? Or are you a person who believes you are in control of your life and destiny? Do you actively and consciously do things to have good health or whatever it is you desire?
I don't think we have total control over our lives, but we can certainly influence how it goes and what happens with our actions and responses.

I think people use "destiny" and "fate" as copouts a lot.

She's clearly never witnessed a loved one dying from cancer. It's easy to say those things when you've never faced such a grim reality.

@Caprice I agree.
Those are the same people who eat anything they want as much as they want and then when they develop diabetes say, Why me?
I know my genes are against me so that's partly why I choose to look after myself. Of course no one is in total control, but doing your part increases your chances of living a good life

I don't see a reason to speed up the death process or put myself at greater risk. I try to live healthy but I also live my life.

I do like to tempt fate and have done so plenty of times in my life, I do it in a way to test the worthiness of my existence.
I focus on a task and accomplish it efficiently and silently. It needs no words or any acclaim.

I do whatever because I agree with her but I don't smoke

I don't believe in fate, so I stopped smoking

Live one day at a time !
I’ve heard that excuse before: “Well, we all have to die from something.” I think, if you value your life so little, why not just go jump off a tall building ? You’ll only experience a little pain briefly when you land rather than months and years deteriorating in a hospital costing money, with your loved ones having to watch

I know I’m going to die, probably sooner rather than later. I’m not trying to rush it or make dying any more drawn out and painful with destructive, useless habits. 😔
