I went from having an eye-contact problem, to a staring problem?

I used to have a problem making eye contact with others. At one point in my life, I guess you could say that I was shy and reserved. But nowadays, I certainly don't have that problem anymore. Now I find myself constantly staring at people and observing them. I've been called out on it a few times by people who caught me staring at them. I don't stare at people to be rude or to come off as some sort of creeper...I just can't help it. I reached a point to where I recognized that my lack of eye contact, and overall my lack of confidence in communicating with others, was a serious problem, and needed to be fixed. And now I find myself in the complete opposite situation.

In your opinion, what's the psychology behind this?
