Pierre Teilhard de Chardin “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.True of false:

Hmmm...I like [@Kindheaertedguy]'s reply...

It seems to me that if you agree with, e.g., Origen, that our souls pre-exist our lives here, this seals the deal and makes the latter clause obvious.

If you think your soul was minted at the inception of your life, then this makes the spirit--though eternal, we generally posit--the ultimate reality but dependent initially upon this physical life as part of the conditions for its creation... That could skew the answer to the former phrase of de Chardin.

Lastly, since we most easily access our experience as of this life...it seems natural to think of the first clause as being right, per our perception, but the 2nd one as right, ultimately. THAT is my own split answer. lol

We like to think so, but I doubt it very much, I like the idea that spirit comes from matter. Maybe the whole dichotomy is false.

In the engineering curriculum, the designers want you to have so many units of "analysis" courses and "synthesis" courses.

Analysis the breaking down of thing, the categorizing of parts, etc.

I think ppl tend to be stronger on analysis and so the overemphasize parts sometimes rather than looking at the whole.

If we have a spirit or soul (I personally believe we do), it is a part of our integrated whole...not.an accessory we put on when we wish...

Option two actually makes sense if you believe in a spirit at all.
