What's the best thing to do to a relative who lends you money but puts 5% interest every month? :(

I just found out that what my dad has been paying wasn't the money he borrowed but just the interest. Since it's too big he couldn't afford to pay the money he borrowed :( he is sending us, his four children, to school :'( I really pitty my dad :'( someone help me. :'(

If I were him I would pay what I owe and refuse to pay anything else. I would add up all the payments and work out if I had paid off the debt by now.

Obviously your dad wants to do the 'right' thing, but at what cost to him and all of you? Unless there is legal documentation that your dad signed whereby your dad could be sued for non-payment what is the relative gonna do? Send the goon squad? Screw that.

Then I would cut off contact completely. To me they would cease to be family.

You should apply for your own student loans, 60 percent APR is nothing less than debt slavery..

you should tell your father not to borrow anymore money from this person.. get a part time job and help pay it back..
And don't forget to say thank you to him for doing this..

@SW-User I would, but there is no student loan in the Philippines. :( something 1st world countries have an advantage of. I would if only I could. But part time jobs here are like full time jobs. :( but I am doing everything to finish uni asap. :( thank you so much for awhile back, and for this. At least I have an idea now of what I should do. I was shaking in frustration when I found that out and how they talk to my father :'( but now I'll be calm and take action. Thank you so much.

@amandra
I'm sorry you're in this situation.
Your father must care about you very much to go to such lengths for your education..
Make him proud by graduating with the highest marks you can..
study hard and thank him for his sacrifice... he is certainly showing his love for you all...

@SW-User I will. I will strive hard. Thank you so much, sir. 💕

That’s very extreme

@SW-User it is :(

5% every month? That's 60% a year if we don't count compound interest. That's insane.

@amandra Glad he could off a part. And seriously ransacking a family member for 8040 dollars?
Unfortunately I don't know too much about it either. Is there some free consult you could consider?
LaCrazyCucumber · 46-50, M
@amandra That is just so wrong and immoral. :/
amandra · 26-30, F
@LaCrazyCucumber I know. To think they are even our relatives.. :(

Have them arrested for loansharking
amandra · 26-30, F

@amandra You're welcome :)

amandra · 26-30, F
@Dontknowme I know :'( they're making my dad a business. He works for it but they get to use the money :'(
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M

That's the point. He couldn't get a loan elsewhere cause he's short of money. So he needs HELP, not another problem.

@SW-User I’d bet dollars to donuts it’s 5% annually.
SW-User
@LyricalOne that would be more reasonable..
I'm just going by what was stated..
