I Don't Believe In "Heroes"

I hated whenever I was asked to write about my hero or asked who was my hero was in school. I never liked the idea because everyone that I looked for some admiration in: George Orwell, MLK, Joan of Arc, every president, Gandhi, Jesus (most all people in the Bible), founding Fathers, many great people, my family members: They all have their own shitty/stupid believes and/or did shitty/stupid things and/or were just regular people excluding their feat they were known for. Because their people.

The modern version of the word "hero" often seem to glorify people as moral pinnacles in spite of the fact they're regular and/or shitty people. As opposed to the Greek heroism that seems to be focused more on feats of greatness despite the morals you hold and exercise, which is probably the best way to look at people because there's no absolute morals and no people of moral perfection.
(Though I'm not sure if the Greek heros were considered immoral or selfish by their own standards at the time)

So never had heroes.

I always felt like having a hero turned you into a follower. It meant you were following in someone else's footsteps instead of making your own path.

Of course there is no truly immaculate or perfectly altruistic person out there, regardless of accomplishments. I think using that as your basis to not follow someone almost goes without saying. Of course we're all flawed in our own ways.

I think my biggest reason for never having a hero was just never really seeing anyone whose path looked like my own. I didn't feel like their example gave any tangible guidance to get me to where I wanted to be. Their stories were too different from mine. I spent my life thus far carving out my own niches and blazing my own trails. No heroes required

Sounds like you search for a God.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I'd classify hero as someone who saves. For example, a person who saves a stray dog from hunger is a hero in my eyes.

@Shaman Does the reason for saving come into play?
Shaman · 26-30
@Cease Perhaps, it should serve to my benefit definately. But I don't think it has to be direct
Pretty much everyone I've met is my hero since they shaped my life into the person I am today
I never had heros either although there are lots of great people out there.

A hero isn't a faultless individual.
