Is there a purpose behind dreaming?

i thought it was meant for processing conflicting data. like to clean out some knots in the brain

I don't know, but I have been having the craziest dreams lately

I think it's our body/minds way of working out anxiety. Some even believe dreaming is really messages or premonitions. I had one before.
