I Love Accents

I was watching a video with British kids trying to do their best Australian and American accents. One of the children said that both the Australian and American accent sound similar. In an American's point of view, the Australian and British accents sound far more similar. Do other Brits think that Australians sound more similar to Americans than they do to Britons? (History seems to support that Australians sound more similar to Brits.)

A very dear friend of mine left Scotland almost 30 years ago. He sounds very Scottish to everyone here in Canada. He went back to visit his home town in Scotland where everyone accused him of having and American accent.
Oh wow!

I asked him what he thought of his accent and he replied that when he hears himself on tape he sounds like he just got off the boat.

I don't think Australian accent sounds similar to American accent.
I'm not really sure if it's closer to UK accent.
I'm British.

I think Australians sound a bit like londoners. Not like americans though, no.
