I Love Accents

Are you aware that you have an accent? Or do you get annoyed when people say you do ?

When I say I'm from Dublin people ask do I sound like Saoirse Ronan. I used to sound like her until she decided to change her accent to a real rough dublin inner city accent. I think she thinks the Americans will find her more adorable that way! She used to say "my mum" now it's "me mah" full Oscar for keeping it up!!!

@Dusty101 I'll take your word on the leprechaun :D And yeah, it's noticeably stronger - much like the way Michael Caines cockney accent strengthened depending on how many American films he was involved in. The rough dubliner accent does really wow the americans.

@firefall well it doesn't take away from her acting ability!! She is very good! And your right about Caine!! He completely milked that!!!

@Dusty101 Oh I agree - if anything, the reverse, being able to sustain it 24/7 is a mark of her ability I'd say

Yea I have a southern accent...it's more surprising than annoying when people make a big deal about it because of course I don't hear it so much in myself.
SW-User
@SW-User is you were to listen to a YouTube video of someone speaking with your accent, do you think you would notice it ?
SW-User
@SW-User I imagine I'd probably be surprised how southern I sound. I hear it in others and think "Ugh, there's no way I talk like that". But then I catch myself saying certain words sometimes that make me think "Omg I sound like I'm in the movie Steel Magnolias".

@SW-User lmao!! Your comment was hilarious. It’s dangerous to go down that rabbity hole! Lol
Mine is Southern. It doesn't annoy me, just makes me self conscious. Especially when I'm talking to people with an accent from England.

@CallmeHopelessNotRomantic So you’re fully aware of it ?
@SW-User yes i am. I have been raised by my family who is from Maryland. We all make fun of each other for the accents.
SW-User
@CallmeHopelessNotRomantic I think that’s funny because it sort of implies that there’s a “normal” accent .

I dont have an accent, everyone else does!
SW-User
Ha ha! You tell them! @firefall
Mine is rather odd & some times described as "other-worldly", A few folks are usually either inclined to say it is Germanic or Slavic...ironically, one elderly gentleman one time commented that I sound like I originated from old England. XD.
Ya, dat bodders me.

i am from Boston but now live in the pacific northwest. Every new person i meet immediately notices my origin. It is about 50/50 between those who can pinpoint it and those who detect the northeast.
