Define your understanding of "Normal"

DragonFruit · 61-69, M
“Normal” is a word based on “norm” which means the arithmetic average. Normal reflects a conformity to the average, within a certain variance. It has also come to mean conformity to societal norms (i.e., most people are, or at least are perceived to be, heterosexual….so heterosexuality is viewed as “normal”).
Things which fall outside of this norm are deemed to be “abnormal” (not normal). This can be perceived to almost anything, and in some ways each of us will be considered normal while in other ways we will be considered abnormal.
In some groups, normalcy is prized….but in others it is not considered desirable.

“Dear God, please don’t let me be normal.” -The Fantasticks

groups who prized normalcy... "cool kids" table...
people who despise normalcy... anti-totalitarian and pro-individuality individuals who want to be themselves...

Bell curve all people on whatever behaviour you're wondering is normal, the outliers are abnormal
Normal is what the majority do, and therefore, if you differ in those ways, you are seen as crazy, abnormal, and treated like an outcast. Normal is behaving like a robot in a world where people are too afraid to stake an opposing stand, or even stand up at all. Normal is not rocking the boat, playing it safe, not venturing out of your comfort zone, not seeing outside of the box.

Someone who doesn't make me fearful, anxious, or otherwise uncomfortable. Someone who's emotions tend to be stable and words are reliable. Someone who is not normal might have tendencies that are extreme. For instance laughing one minute and crying the next. Or if someone has "I like myself" written in red all over their walls. I tend to avoid people like that.

you're basically describing what's normal in a psychological way...

sane is somehow the word for that.
Recluse · 46-50, M
Normal is having some common sense. Normality has to have some guidelines or else people would just run a muck.
My "normal" may not be yours, vise versa. But as long as it doesn't effect my safety. Then whatever you do is Normal to me.

Accepting, conforms and truly believes in Western conditioning. All of us who know the truth are considered trouble makers, people with problems and just plain crazy.
fenomen02 · 41-45, M
there is NO definition of normal! We all are, in our own way, normal!

then you can accept or not my "normality"...
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
very psychological way of describe normal... yeah we are all sane
fenomen02 · 41-45, M
@nurseVneck: not sane! What I am trying to say is that what it is normal for me, can be odd for you! I am not even commenting on ethic or legal...
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
@fenomen02: well whatever is normal for you wouldn't be weird for me... i'd accept you for who you are

if what you're saying is that... then i'd accept an individual regardless.

if Being Yourself is Normal, then yeah you presented another definition of what's normal for the self
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
The application of defined standards to everyone, with no regard for individuality.
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
that's why for people who embrace individuality. to be forced into normalcy is rather insulting... to be called weird makes us proud of who we are and to be called normal is sometimes insulting for it means being boring like a robot...like a person who has gone into the crab-mentality treatment where everyone is forced to be equal

"equality sucks" to be honest..."equity is good"
Newfound · 41-45, M
Normal is a relative term. There are things I consider normal might be kinky to others
AnukBinary · M
Normal is the majority.
quinnVneck · 31-35, F

AnukBinary · M
@nurseVneck: yah, all hail individuality. And down with forced normalcy😁
