Are accountability and confidentiality mutually exclusive?

You may need to explain the thinking behidn this question a bit.

I mean... at work I could screw up and be fired and it could be entirely confidential because of some of the stuff I do for a living. I would still be accountable for my screw up.

I don't think so, but I'll be damned if I know why I don't think so.
