Do you believe there was a real Star of Bethlehem?

In ancient times a particularly bright star was an occasion of wonderment and stories -- but as for the legends surrounding the birth they are legends.

well. the ancient cultures were well in tune with astrological understandings.. could there have been a light brighter than others at the time that forced an observation to be noted? maybe, maybe not...

I believe a star was seen at that time.

I've read there was a comet in the sky, and that by the time the Maji arrived Jesus was three years old. The older I get, the more convinced I am Jesus never existed.

@hunkalove: Maybe the wisemen where not led by a star in the sky,but a "star" on their charts that was in Leo the Lion.

According to some astronomers the "Star of Bethlehem" was probably a certain "star," more likely a planet, that appeared and moved thorough a specific constellation that astrologers in Persia noticed that meant something to them.

There is a theory that what they saw was Jupiter and Venus travelling through Aries. The Ram was the symbol of Israel and Jupiter traveling through it was thought to symbolize royalty or a king.

@irishwonder1973: Not sure which planet or constellation now. But do remember that it was a planet that represented Israel to them moving through a constellation that symbolized royalty.
