Why do servants have no respect for their betters anymore? I was down at the stables and this young lout of a stable lad

was cleaning out my wife's horses. I am pretty sure he saw me but did he doff his cap and bow? No, he did not. I was shocked and stunned, of course I had my butler give the man a damned good thrashing but, now, even as an equal opportunities employer I feel like I have to sack the oik as an example. Thoughts please.
