Remember when companies actually cared about social issues?

Neither do I

The business I used to work for went through a senior management led “social responsibility” drive a while ago. We put together a whole series of charity events, which none of the local management attended.
Once a ton of money had been raised, the local management accepted a load of awards for fundraising and had their photos taken for press events, made plaques for the reception area etc. Once the awards and kudos were given out, they dropped any drive for charity whatsoever and went back to making money and furthering their careers and personal objectives. That’s how much of a shit business really cares. As long as there’s kudos and the opportunity to make more money they’ll do it, if not they won’t. It’s a sad fact unfortunately.

@Oneofthestormboys Walmart has so many fundraisers that they push to their employees. For example if you pay a $1 on a football game day you can wear a team shirt instead of a uniform shirt or pay $1 on Friday to wear jeans instead of khakis and donate to charities. They have many other things. I figured it is to make management and corporate higher ups to look good and bet they even take a tax write off for it. I never trusted them and never donated. If I want to help I do it locally

@cherokeepatti I learned the hard way that you’re right unfortunately. Not a single member of local management at the company I used to work for turned up at any of the five or so big events I arranged. Not one.

@Oneofthestormboys they use the peons to get recognition for themselves and unfortunately that’s the way of the world
I literally have ptsd from this.

It's funny because it's true. ┴┤•ᴥ •ʔ/
Now that's how to virtue signal.
Could be worse. You could be Panera Bread and think it is a good idea to mock the religion of the people sueing you for wrongful dismissal and religious discrimination on your official company Twitter account.

Every action they do take, even ones that would change something, are done from profitability calculations. At the very least, the statements and positioning reflect the present leanings of who they believe their customer base is. And though they may not care, the fact that they try to make it look like they do speaks volumes of where we are as a people.

well what I remember long ago was when some companies focused on family values when advertising their products. That was back in the day when TV shows and many movies did the same

That should read: We at Brand are using the BLM to get your attention.

@Thevy29 In recent memory, "BLM", "Gay Pride", "trans pride" all fit in the slot. But this isn't new.
