OxyContin maker to plead guilty to federal criminal charges, pay $8 billion, and will close the company

New York(CNN Business)Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, has agreed to plead guilty to three federal criminal charges for its role in creating the nation's opioid crisis and will pay more than $8 billion and close down the company.

The money will go to opioid treatment and abatement program
Best news I've heard in a long time.

But I bet some other company will just start supplying another version.
@hartfire The bottom line for the system is unreasonable

That's what I meant.

The whole medical system in the states..is for the benefit of its richest members and then

on

down.
@Elevatorpitches Sadly, I think that is true, and probably will be for as long as the current economic system survives.
@hartfire Its not surving that welll so it digs in more savagely all the time!!

Thanks for the update. 👍

I wonder how they'll break it down between the states.

@Stereoguy We've got some pretty feisty representatives, starting with our Governor. We were the reason the opioid crisis became a front and center issue in 2016. Trump promised us he'd make it one of his primary concerns along with the goal to get it handled. He started out okay but we were lost in the shuffle somewhere along the line. We still have an issue and we need the funding. I think I'll be writing to my reps to ensure they do everything they can to get a good portion of that payout.
