Were you taught any foreign language at school ?

English and German for me
Yulianna · 22-25, F
English, German also 🙂

oh, and some French...
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@TheSirfurryanimalWales so the welsh word for coffee is coffee... how poetic.
@Yulianna yes...but we spell it the Welsh way😀
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@TheSirfurryanimalWales 😲 could be a nasty mistake, try to order an espresso, end up with a casket...
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
Latin, French and Sarcasm.
BlueVeins · 22-25
I was taught French, but I didn't retain any of it. I suck major ass at language learning lmao.
Dusty101 · F
Irish, (our native language, only spoken in the sticks of Ireland) French and Spanish..
Nailed all 3..
Loved those subjects!
revenant · F
@Dusty101 oh Irish looks and sounds very tough to learn !
Dusty101 · F
@revenant it is... But learning it at a young age.. Its easy!
walabby · 61-69, M
@Dusty101 I once had an Irishman speak English to me when I was in Northern Ireland. I couldn't understand a single word!
SW-User
I studied Latin in high school, and in college I’ve been studying Ancient Greek and Japanese.
revenant · F
@SW-User this sounds very interesting ! are you planning on going to Japan ?
SW-User
@revenant I’m planning to go back. :) I went there a couple years ago and I would love to return.
revenant · F
@SW-User I hope you will 🙂
I did choose to take Foreign Studies as a short study.

It led me to Runic Studies. To learning about Aldai. To perusing Shinryu's observations.
revenant · F
@Amyrakunejo so you come from another planet ?
@revenant More like, I was turned into Aether and forced into a mortal flesh prison here, reasons why I know not, same with by who. As far as I know, I could be so far removed from my own existence that I only exist in my own memory, and if so, then existence is completely thrown out of balance and collapse is imminent, which would explain a lot of things.

Collapse of existence? Imagine childbirth and multiply the pain from that by five, six thousand fold on itself to start. To go from existing to non-existence in a universal instant would be days of agony because time itself, or the perception of, would warp beyond comprehension multiple times per second.

Yeah. If you ever get into quantum physics, it talks about this. In depth. Paradoxes, split infinities, existential vacuums, plasmid rays, time belts, solar inversions, and a lot of this is beginner level. Shinryu also talks about these things a lot in their observations. Matter subversion, dark matter, negative matter, Aether, ball lightning...
revenant · F
@Amyrakunejo interesting
Elessar · 26-30, M
English, French and Latin. Unfortunately I can't remember much of the second and third due to lack of practice.
revenant · F
@Elessar yes it is much harsher than your language but if you can read it , congratulations !!! Are Romans only still in Rome ?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@revenant They're both a pain to learn, at least compared to English 😬😬

Yeah, with Romans these days we intend those who live in and around the capital.
revenant · F
@Elessar all this grammar and verbs and stuff yes ! so romans are still hot stuff 🙂
ArtieKat · M
An ex-girlfriend of mine spoke fluent Welsh - although she spoke English with an entirely English accent.
ArtieKat · M
@HairbrushDiva Not as difficult to read as to speak or listen to. Certain words like eglwys (church) are very similar to French eglise. Gwilym to Guillaume (William) etc etc
ArtieKat · M
@revenant The vowel sounds are included in certain consonants. Hebrew, I believe, is similar in that respect
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@ArtieKat I suppose so.
French....complete waste of time.CSE grade 3 i got....
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@revenant Yes. I once spent 10 days or so near Perpignan. We made a couple trips through the foothills of the Pyrenees. Very beautiful. Of course until 1643 that area belonged to the Kingdom of Aragon and thus the Spanish monarchy. There is even an old border castle, which you can visit.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales Bloody hell if that stupid pandemic is still going on in 2023, we will have serious problems. I want to go the World Cup in France too.
revenant · F
@Mugin16 you are the go to guy about everything history !🙂
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
My mother did not learn any foreign language at school but now she learns English words like lockdown, contact tracing or circuit breaker.
revenant · F
@Mugin16 clusters !
Spanish but I wish I had applied myself much more.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
French. We all did French in my school and our French teacher was a genuine Frenchwoman.
English and French but don't try to test my French because it sucks haha I only know basics. I was more interested in English I never payed too much attention to French. I also self taught myself some Polish but I lost interest.
revenant · F
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether ah nice ! thanks !
SW-User
French and Latin
AllAboutLaffs · 70-79, M
Latin and German ..
Adstar · 56-60, M
Nope.. They did give us the option of taking French or German as a topic for the School certificate but i disliked the french at the time and German was useless.. So i took Geography and Tech Drawing
(drafsmanship) ..
Spanish and French. Bambara for work. Some Hebrew and Yiddish at home. A few words in Lakota from reading.
revenant · F
@LeopoldBloom that must be great to understand hebrew !
@revenant I can read it, but I don't really understand it. Also, modern Hebrew is different from liturgical Hebrew.
Français .. but I forgot most of it.
@revenant not a chance... lips sealed.
revenant · F
@NoGamesTolerated not a chance...about what ?
@revenant last comment. I have not mistaken for Hindi.
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
French....it didn't stick.
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
@revenant I did but I was (maybe) 13 or 14 in an all boys school...I had no use for it. I took it because everyone was taking Spanish and I wanted to be different. I remember a few phrases but you know, I was young and it just didn't matter...a lot of things didn't when I was that age! :)
revenant · F
@luctoretemergo absolutely , other things to think about
LucyGray · 26-30, F
@luctoretemergo No French stick for you! (I got the pun)
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
French and English
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@revenant Mais oui.

And Latin too but only translating it into German.
revenant · F
@Mugin16 ahahaha 🤣
revenant · F
@Mugin16 Du has nicht gelernt lol. I used to love German but no practice
https://similarworlds.com/33-Experiences/3598131-Question-for-real-French-speaking-people
revenant · F
@NoGamesTolerated no you did not. Do you have a lot of anger issues ? for my part I would not debate native speakers
@revenant I wouldn’t either! Kapeesh?
revenant · F
@NoGamesTolerated why are you telling me you are right and I am wrong then ?
ArtieKat · M
French, German and Latin
SW-User
@ArtieKat it couldn't do German and music. So no option really.

My daughter did French, Spanish and Latin
ArtieKat · M
@SW-User Schools offered some funny options, didn't they? Under one set of options (for O Level) I could have done French, Russian or Latin; in another choice I could have done Biology, Geography or Latin. Music, RE and Gym were compulsory! ;-)
openwater · 46-50, M
Spanish & English. Wish just one of them would have stuck.
Indy74 · 46-50, F
French and English. Can't speak either one!!😁
revenant · F

Ian123 · 61-69, M
PSuss1 · 51-55, M
A long time ago, but Latin, French, Spanish and German ...none to any better than a vaguely passable standard!
Frank52 · 70-79, M
Yep. But the more relevant question might be, 'Did you learn any?' 😄
Poppapepe · 51-55, MVIP
I can't remember that long ago 🙄 oiy vey😏
Azlotto · M
