Is it weird if your coworker googles stuff about you?

I mean this happened to me today. I know for sure this wasn't a coincidence as he googled my surname which is unique and he ended up finding stuff about my dad. He "told" me that he came across a file on the internet and knew it was someone from my family.

Narcissists do that so they have a way to control you. Avoid him as best you can.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@curiosi I feel that too. As you mentioned, he has been a person who has been very curious about my personal life since the day I joined.

They’re a bit too interested in you yeah

I'd feel very very uncomfortable. Once an obnoxious school leader asked me if I was going to the same place for my year end holiday. She explained she searched it up and I seem to always head to the same place. In my mind, I was like 'what freaking bizness is that to you?" There'll always be these kind of people.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@novembermoon I agree and there's nothing we can do about it. The only thing we can do is avoid them and keep to ourselves.

How is your surname unique? Isn't it the same as your dad's surname?
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Beatbox34 Unique means there is only one and no other. You just said there were three of you, you, your dad and some random guy.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@HairbrushDiva You're right
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Beatbox34 I know I am. I knew what the word "unique" meant when I was in junior school.

I've had a similar experience; people asking if I didn't find my current role a come down after my previous jobs. I couldn't understand how they knew about my past, until I realised that they must have googled me.
Nayla · 51-55, F
ok that's creepy stalker shit going on.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@Nayla I didn't actually know he was doing it. He was vaguely asking if someone in my family went to court and then when he showed me my dad's case files, that's when it got weird.

I did end up telling him to stay in line.
Nayla · 51-55, F
@Beatbox34 I'd mention it to the boss. I don't think he has any right digging up stuff about you
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@Nayla Now that's the problem. The thing is I'm different in this entire office.

I choose to do my work and leave asap when my time is done. I don't engage in the gossip and go about talking trash about others while they live on that.

It's a really weird place to work. In short, they all kiss asses and I can't do that.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
that's why you should never give your last name.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
@Beatbox34 is he the Manager?
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@FreestyleArt Not exactly but he does deal with all the employee personnel data.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
@Beatbox34 ah I see
smiler2012 · 56-60
beatbox depends if you want other people to do this and you are happy about it but this day and age things about you are up to scrutny
Very creepy. Maybe tell him it made you feel uncomfortable and to not look stuff up about you anymore.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@BlondilyOld I ended up telling him to mind his business. It was weird tbh.
SW-User
It’s a little odd. Perhaps they really like you want to know more about you.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@SW-User That's understandable.

I mean I was talking to another coworker and he had hinted it out to me that the people in this office were more interested in a person's private life. This makes more sense now as that guy knows everything as I did state it when I joined the place of work.

What he did was dig a little more about me.
Magenta · F
Yes, it's creepy and inappropriate.
I could tell stories, but I won't.
summersong · F
Yeah that’s weird.
Yes, that level of interest would make me uncomfortable. I’d want to know their motives. 🙁
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard He won't be able to access a lot but he did access my dad's case files as it was put up in court.
