@FairyGirlGemma they’ve been phasing those kind of restaurants out over here it seems.
FairyGirlGemma · F
@SensitiveCha0s How dare they!! 😡
SensitiveCha0s · M
@FairyGirlGemma I agree! As a kid I used to enjoy Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips and they closed up many years ago. More recently, Long John Silver’s was the only place to get it anywhere remotely near here. That also seems to have left the region. 😒
AbbeyRhode · F
The fish & chips are pretty well iconic, and probably the first thing I'd want to try.
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode Awwwww.
Indeed, delicious :)

Can't go wrong with a cheese oatcake. Even though that's not really a a generic UK thing. More of a where I'm from thing.
Moonpenny · F
@NickiHijab Yay!!!
I only have them when I go home 😕

NickiHijab · F
@Moonpenny Are you from Staffordshire? There's this place in stone called oatcakes and milkshakes. I don't go often but whenever I have, it's been great
Moonpenny · F
@NickiHijab
That sounds like my kinda place 😋
No, I was born in Derbyshire. We had oatcakes all the time 😁

Fish & chips .. especially when its smothered it salt , brown & then for
the pièce de résistance Dashes of onion vinegar.
Then all wrapped in paper ..so that the lovely flavors soak in.
..on a plate ..fork in ..
Never been anywhere abroad & tasted anything like the same.
No matter how much they try.
Its just not done ;)

Fish and chips. I've had them once, and I hear that they are better in the UK than anywhere else.

I haven't been to the UK but I had great Indian food in Ireland.

@Nimbus We plan on hiking. I never get to plan (somehow the worst planner does it). I'd have to go through my emails to see where we are planning to go.

@SW-User Good.

Our roast beef dinners are awesome....[image deleted]. Fish and chips is great
HuH?
You're joking, yes?
Fodor's guide to France in 1979 said this, "if you love to eat good food, eat in France, but if you love a clean toilet catch the ferry to England."
England relies on predominantly factory farmed meat, which tastes insipid and lacks Omega 3.
It's traditional dishes can be done to a gourmet standard, but that rarely happens in the average household.
England is now full of restaurants run by immigrants from throughout the former colonial countries - and it's not one bit surprising that those businesses thrive.
The essence of British: a soggy Yorkshire pudding, boiled tripe in white sauce, overcooked cabbage, mashed potatoes, rock hard green tomatoes on iceberg lettuce with white vinegar... and a wine called Little Piddle.
Saints preserve us!

@Chevy454 The British even manage to murder curry.
They tip a heaped teaspoon of Keens curry powder into a frypan of onions and minced beef - and maybe add a stock cube and a bit of water - served with boiled white rice. Even the smell is off-putting.
A real curry is totally different - it varies from region to region, savoury dishes of many kinds throughout India - and any of them can be one of the most gourmet treats in the world.
