True horror story...

One day, I was at a football game and the next day I received a photo of the outside of a very large stadium, no text, just a photo. I didn’t recognize the number and I didn’t think anything of it just that it might be an accidental text. I happened to be on a field about a week later for work and decided to respond with just a photo of the main field. Kind of my way of saying image received this is how the inside looks. My own humor I guess you could say and then it all started:
1 week later I receive a high definition photo of a blade of grass.
(Taking it this was their response of I get it let’s take a deeper look.)
I went along went outside to my back yard and dug up soil and responded with an image of some dirt.
Another week past since my response and I received an image of water.
About three weeks went by and I took a photo of a fire station near my house.
They responded a week later with the image of a fire hydrant.
Things weren’t weird, just a fun game of pictures with this new random friend who understood me. Then it all stopped for a while... and then around Halloween time I received an image with a photo of a corn field and a hole late at night. I was planning on responding with a shovel as part of our clever game but I didn’t have one so I figured next time I came across one at a hardware store I would respond. Before I could even respond I received another photo of a city sign at 4:47 AM of a city sign Odessa, Texas. Very difficult to make out very dark and it looked like they got out of their car to take the photo while putting their lights on the sign. I got the text while asleep and didn’t even see it until getting to work. I didn’t know what to think and was trying to figure out how to respond while at work and decided to plan a trip to a tortilla factory in Los Angeles for my next response instead of the shovel since Odessa isn’t known for anything big but their manufacturing of tortillas. While at lunch I heard my phone ping thinking it might be my girlfriend at the time but only to find out I received another photo of a sign for El Paso, now I started thinking okay they are heading my way. This time the image in the sun and legible seems real time...
a while later an image of Tucson sign. Now they were even closer to me, next Phoenix the it was night by this point, then toward midnight or late in the evening I recall I couldn’t sleep and received an entering California image, they are now in my state.... I am panicking... the next image was of my city sign at 4:47 AM 24 hours after the first imagine it’s almost felt symbolic of them saying they won in just 24 hours they won I couldn’t win the game. I flipped out I was awake all night so stressed out. I didn’t receive an image after my city limit...

You're insane. This person sounds dangerous af. But since you played a long. They probably thought you were more dangerous than them and stopped replying.

That’s such a cool story but really really creep I now feel really scared and not many things can make me feel that way. Anyway I’m glad you’re safe , you can put it down to an another experience and people actually pay to read stories like yours so maybe one day you could send it in somewhere. But really that’s one of the most interesting things I’ve read on here. It beats all the Selfie posts.

How would they have known even which city you live in, let alone your name and address?

If as Picklebobble suggests they had been able to track your phone, which you say is unlikely, limiting its use and replying only when at some random point away from home would have hindered them.

I think they were just playing a game of some sort, and may have had other reasons for approaching your city - or they were doing it to throw you off tracking them.

Years ago I received a text from an unknown number, clearly addressed by one woman to another, something like "Hello Mary. See you Saturday 10am. Susan."

Obviously a wrong number but it may have been important so I sent back. "Hello Susan. Wrong number & I'm a [real first name] not a Mary".

Susan replied, to apologise for troubling me.

I sent back, humorously, "No problem. You can trouble me any day!" with the colon smile sign.

It led to about 3 weeks of occasional, harmless flirting in which I learnt she was married and lived some 200 miles away. She started becoming more overtly sexual and I toned that down a bit. Finally she asked me to send a photo but I had to admit that was not possible with my 'phone. After a few days' thinking time Susan asked how I thought I'd meet anyone then. "Well, people did before these phones were invented." I replied.

I didn't hear from her again. I hope she didn't think I was being sarcastic or anything.

@ArishMell Now that is creepy!

@SW-User Which - the game someone was playing on you (if that's what it was) or the flirting?

The latter arose from a simple wrong number, and was a bit of fun for a couple of weeks or so. Never thought it creepy.
😦Glad you didn't wind up in a true crime novel.

In taking the field or fire station, were they generic photos, or identifiable in small detail? (Turf logo/colors; fire hall flag). Sorry if I missed that.

@SethGreene531 you know what I never thought of this but our fire station has the city name on it! I don’t recall if I ever got the front of the building but it’s in brass letters. You think they picked up on this and wanted to spook me out!?
@SW-User
That's lot of mileage..and meticulous effort.. simply to spook somebody.
The fire hall sounds plausible.

At any rate, you stayed safe. Glad it ended well.

That's pretty freaky !

@SW-User I wonder if it was somebody testing tracking software. Given the current craziness
SW-User
@Picklebobble2 this was about 6-7 years ago? iPhone 4s
SW-User
@Picklebobble2 I do look back and realize some of their photos were places I was but not things I recognized.
