Is it me or have we accepted Covid -19 as new normal

Don’t get me wrong, I painfully live with it everyday at work but the rest of the world seems have bounced back pretty quickly .
JustNik · 51-55, F
There seem to be two camps. Those who accept the reality of its presence and those who think if they ignore it, it’s not there. In the beginning when we were all staying home, there seemed more unity and I was actually hopeful this would help ease all the divisiveness, but it ended up like a fad diet. We lost a little madness but then we gained it all back and then some. 🙄

Right 😕
2020 in film.

This ain’t one body’s story. It’s the story of us all. We got it mouth-to-mouth, so you got to listen it and ‘member, ’cause what you hears today you got to tell the birthed tomorrow. I’m looking behind us now, across the count of time, down the long haul into history back. I sees the end what were the start. It’s Pox-Eclipse, full of pain! And out of it were birthed crackling dust and fearsome time. It were full-on winter, and Mr. Dead chasing them all. But one he couldn’t catch, that were Captain Walker. He gathers up a gang, takes to the air and flies the sky! So they left their homes, said bidey-bye to the high-scrapers and what were left of the knowing they left behind. Some say the wind just stoppered. Others reckon it were a gang called Turbulence. And after the wreck some had been jumped by Mr. Dead but some had got the luck, and it leads them here. One look and they’s got the hots for it. They word it “Planet Earth.” And they says, “We don’t need the knowing. We can live here.”

You're living the reality of the virus, there are far to many who believe their freedoms are more important...
Niloo · 46-50, F
@Quimliqer
I’m doing my part to keep others safe .
Not sure what “ the others “ are thinking !
LadySax · 56-60, F
I don’t think we all know what is deemed to be ‘normal’ really or the true effects it’s having especially on people’s health, we have no choice but to adapt at the moment, however I think this adaption is bringing many emotions for people along the way.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@LadySax You ain't seen nothing yet. 🙂
LadySax · 56-60, F
@Zonuss no I totally agree

DisturbOne · 41-45, M
@Niloo life should always be about the next big adventure. Good or bad , but it ain’t boring
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
It’s not the new normal with me. I didn’t do anything different except stock up on supplies & groceries that I needed during the quarantine.
I have been noticing the same.
New Zealand has just eradicated it completely; no active cases anywhere for the last 17 days.
Australia has eliminated it from all but two states, with none of the few remaining cases critical and all likely to recover. It should be free of the virus within the next three weeks.
But neither of these countries is likely to open their borders to travellers until the virus is extinguished world-wide. Many other countries will take a similar approach.
It's highly likely that travellers may have to put up with two weeks quarantine at both ends of every international trip. That will probably greatly reduce tourism and trade.
So at least in these respects, unless an effective and safe vaccine is found, I think COVID-19 will change human social interactions permanently.
Niloo · 46-50, F
@hartfire
Very interesting !
Yes
I have a feeling some of the changes are here to stay
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Over here in South Africa we still have restrictions, but they've been lessened a bit. Still can't buy nicotine products though. We've been allowed alcohol since the 1st of June. We have to wear masks. You kinda get used to it, the only thing I'm not used to is the lack of nicotine so I get my vape juice from a friend.
Niloo · 46-50, F
@basilfawlty89
I believe wearing masks is quite effective.
What’s the reason for nicotine products now baking available ?
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@Niloo supposedly it worsens covid-19 symptoms. It's horseshit.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@basilfawlty89 statistically, more smokers contract covid than non-smokers, and, when the do, their illness appears to be worse.
TrunkZ · 56-60, M
Well until there is a vaccine and/or herd immunity, Covid-19 is still here. In the meantime, social distancing, masks, sanitizer, etc. are there to help reduce the speed with which it spreads.
DIMaverick4 · 41-45, M
Our disposition as a species (as any other specie in this world) is a positive disposition. I don't think we have bounced back yet but I do think we are learning to live with it. All around me it feels like we fell down. Got up. Dusting ourselves now. We don't mind a few dirt stains or some wounds or injuries. We are itching to dance the dance of life again. That's the most inspiring thing about all the animals on this planet. We wanna have nothing to do with things holding us back. We just move on!
azgp01 · 70-79, M
The 2nd wave of the Spanish flu was the deadliest. So there’s the history quote about repeating it!
Niloo · 46-50, F
@azgp01
Oh
I hope not 😕
We're still on lockdown but you see people ignoring that not wearing masks.
Niloo · 46-50, F
@BlondilyOld
Me too
Life is back to new normal in here...:(
@cherokeepatti

True... but I believe each one of us has hercown values at life... she surely has her owns, which cant be judged... 🤗🤗🌷

As a good friend, perhaps you can give her some advice..
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Soossie Believe they are already gone to California. She can talk to the children I guess. Only they know what they can afford to do. I know they both missed their family back in Iran and the culture and the fresh foods etc. They would go for a visit every few years but it’s different when you live somewhere all the time. She came back here to Oklahoma and said she felt more relaxed here.
@cherokeepatti

Awww!! I hope they will find a way for a better life for both...
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
not yet but it might be we just don't know yet
Niloo · 46-50, F
@Subsumedpat
I’m praying that it is
I’m still extremely cautious though
In the world in which I live, people seem to have adjusted pretty well. Those who wear face masks are continuing to do so while addressing their usual chores, while those who don't wear masks are continuing to NOT wear them.
@Niloo Well, it more than a little disconcerting that the number of Covid cases are continuing to rise in the US because of the number of people who refuse to practice the suggested directives. A lot of Americans don't think they have to wear face masks. I don't know why. Arrogance? Stupidity? Feelings of invincibility? Who knows?
Niloo · 46-50, F
@PhoenixPhail
I think it’s the sense of invincibility
I know quite a few physicians how don’t wear masks
One of them threw a huge party and invited the rest last weekend !!!
So, they know what to do. They just feel like they won’t catch it .
@Niloo Yeah. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. Even after the lockdown is lifted I'm going to wear my mask for some time.

10 weeks into a quarantine, makes it the new normal. Even when a vaccine is available, people will have adopted a new way of life.
Northwest · M
@Niloo We're going to have multiple vaccines, starting as early as September (if the Chinese take shortcuts with safety protocols), there is very doubt of that, at this point. However, our habits will change.

- Work from home, or distance working, will be expected, as opposed to being an exception, and more tools will be available, to make it better. The majority of white collar, office workers, might be able to do that.

- Shopping online. People discovered how convenient it is. They may not want to switch, and online retailers will deploy new automation tools/robotics, to make it a permanent thing.

- We will be more apprehensive about hygiene in public, and how close we choose to get to other people.

When 9/11 happened, it changed the way we travel, and no one thinks twice about it now.
When HIV happened, it changed the way we have sex, and no one thinks twice about it now.
When online dating happened, it changed the way we meet people, and no one thinks twice about it now.
.....
Niloo · 46-50, F
@Northwest
You have a very valid point ..
Except for online dating !!!😁
I’m still not sure about that one ‘

@Niloo

You may be in the minority :-)

Why was your experience negative?
Sadly Covid 19 is getting worse. Had to postpone a trip to later this year.

No, I'm going to start ignoring it..
People are not wearing masks everywhere.
It's starting to go back to normal around here
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
I really don’t care about it. I think it’s stupid to still be taking precautions

I have accepted it. Part of what helped me was to pull out my old sewing machine and start making pretty cloth masks to go with various outfits I have. I have also donated them to family and friends which keeps me busy.

Where I live, businesses ask you to wear one, so we all do. Luckily our state has not had a huge increase of cases so far.
@Bluebirdsonmyshoulder I think there is more promise in alternative treatments to Covid-19 than what vaccines will offer. RNA research is one of them.

https://www.rochester.edu/newscenter/covid-19-rna-coronavirus-research-428952/

The virus mutates too quickly for science to keep up with it using vaccines.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
It’s the new normal, until it isn’t. Adjustments have, and will continue to be made, but eventually everything gravitates back toward what makes everyone’s life easier and happier. Same reason why we don’t do more for the planet and the environment
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
"We" need to learn how to live with it in our midst. It will take a while to defeat it. The young idiots on tv who don't realize how dangerous their actions are disgust me!
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
We rank just under Kenya in effectiveness of efforts against covid. So, what we see is the result of ignorong it and thinking it will magically and musically disappear!

...the " second wave"..is coming ....This was just a drill aka "pandemic one" as Kill Gates calls it

Yes. For now.

@Zonuss
Hi there !🤗
I understand that there is a lot going on and the protests are a priority at this point.
I have also notice most are wearing masks .
I was not talking the protestors .
I was talking about everyday interactions .
Viper · M
Um, do we have any other choice?
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Not a big deal.
