Do you think race relations were better before Obama became president?

Absolutely, it has gotten much worse than it used to be. I'm 59 and I have the advantage of hindsight with other decades to compare things to and I have never seen it become so incendiary. Ever since the Obama administration (whose first term I voted for), I noticed his behavior focused less on building bridges upon things we have in common and rather concentrate more on differences and agitate. It's almost as if he wanted to retaliate on behalf of African Americans and deliberately hurt white Americans. This Latino regrets voting for him and I am glad I walked away from the Democratic Party after blindly voting for them for over 35 years without question.

@DudeistPriest “ I noticed his behavior focused less on building bridges upon things we have in common and rather concentrate more on differences and agitate.”

😂 This certainly sounds like someone familiar.

@DudeistPriest minorities are nothing but votes to democrats; if only for an instant that they believed that blacks and hispanics were going to support a republican candidate instead, they'd go back to segregation and build a border that would rival the soviet iron curtain...
@wildbill83 They won't get my vote for having lied to me and my family for decades. Their level of race-hustling has taken a quantum leap since they've come to realize they lost two huge portions of their traditional demographic. I think you know who those are. And you know, a lot of this is really just common sense.

for those who said no, quickly, without using google, name all the race riots you can think of prior to 2008... 🤔

only one I can think of that comes to mind is 92 LA riots

@wildbill83 really? Try the 1960s after MLK was brutally murdered for peacefully advocating and protesting for civil rights.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout thanks Obama! 😤🙃

Yes. I think everyone rallied around the hatred for Bush. Even though he became like an ambassador to Africa after he left office.

I think in some ways things got better, in some ways worse over his Presidency

But I disagree with those that say that he personally increased division
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Indeed. There were incidents but obama accelerated it like he did the national debt
eli1601 · 70-79, M
No difference

@eli1601 But Obama didn't help. He could have, just like Trump could.

@SW-User We think our Presidents can have more of an influence on people than is realistic.
@eli1601 Yes I believe after decades of observing the way governments behave closely that their powers are limited in this area. I've witnessed so many presidential candidates make superfluous promises we know they'll never keep, but vote for them anyway because of campaign passion. Then they come into office and fulfill less than half of them, and we have gotten used to that.

This repetition makes me sense that it's as if there's someone or something above them that is pulling their strings, and informs them what will happen to them if they don't obey as instructed. Look what happened to the last real president to govern the country - Kennedy.

We were taught in high school Government class in the 70s that there are two basic forms of government, the People and the Elite. The People (as in We the People of the United States in order to form a more Perfect Union establish rights, provide for the common defense, etc...) are a force to be reckoned with. But they are unorganized when compared to the Elite who are the super-rich 1% (or specifically 0.01% - namely 500-1,000 richest families in this country) who really navigate this country's path as Oligarchs, and they know very well that appealing to emotions, passions and weaknesses are great ways to control the masses...

Except that the concept of government by the Elite is no longer taught in high school Government class.

Absolutely not.

They were not!
