Can You Be Christian and Still Listen To Metal?

I listen to metal. Many of my friends and peers now know this about me and seem to behave differently around me. Thoughts?

The bible says nothing about bad about music. The fact that some prudes are too uptight to appreciate it means nothing.

yup. I know many christians who listen to metal. I used to be one myself. Still listen to metal, and my listening to metal is not what made me stop considering myself a christian.

You can claim to be a Christian. A lot of people claim to be Christian. But where's your heart? Is your heart truly after Christ if you are entertaining the devil? Or don't you know that is the devil's music?

@InvictusIndigo Evil is a reality. We should not pretend as if evil doesn't exist, but the question we should ask ourselves when reading these works or listening to musical artists is: what is the author trying to convey? What ideas are being promoted? Stephen King's books, for the most, contain good social commentary, good almost always prevails over evil. Stephen King doesn't promote fear or hopelessness . So, we have to take it on a case by case basis. We can't just say, it's All the same genre so its all ok. Look at the context of the individual work and discern whether or not the message is appropriate and coincides with your beliefs.

@SW-User Of course it's not all the same in the same genre. There are metal bands who truly are pieces of shit. Mayhem, for example. But the same can be said for anything. There are horrible people regardless of what music they play, stories they write, or message they supposedly preach.

That's kinda the point. you can't lump any genre of anything into 'good' or 'evil'. There are just people.

And sometimes the 'promotion' of fear or hopelessness is used as the social commentary. A lot of the evil and/or dark themes in metal are metaphors. Or used as a catharsis to work through hopelessness. Metal isn't evil because on the surface it may appear to be. Again, it's horror in musical form

Yeah .... it doesn’t hurt anybody. I hate so called Christians who judge others based on their music and movie choices 🤦🏽‍♀️
Sacred darkness. Light & dark can be good.

@DarkCrazyArtistGeekGamer That's pretty interesting, haven't heard of that before :)
@InvictusIndigo I been doing my research for my stories & to understand various perceptions & lifestyles.

The short answer is yes. The long answer is the music one listens to has absolutely no impact on their faith. You could listen to the most Satanic metal there is and so long as it doesn’t make you want to start worshiping the devil, then who cares? Listen to whatever you like and don’t let the small-mindedness of others make you question it.

Oh, and there’s actually a style of metal called Christian metal, so case closed.

Um, yes.
Stop worrying about such stupidity. God isn’t even real.

I don’t see why not. I personally hate hard rock and metal, but that’s just my opinion. It all sounds the same to me. But I don’t see anything particularly anti-Christian about the genre itself. There are Christian metal bands, and the Bible never calls out any particular musical genre as sinful.
I used to listen to Christian music when I was Muslim. It's just music it doesn't matter, some Muslims think that music on general is sinful 😂 it just doesn't matter. Do whatever makes you happy.
Of course you can. Unless you are around some people that are sick with scrupulously. Which is a form of religous ocd.

MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@InvictusIndigo Yes almost all Red songs are about relationship with Jesus.

I do love metal music and I'm a Christian.
Sure, I don’t know of anything in the teachings against any particular music. That just seems to be a prohibition that certain denominations came up with.
Spokeskitties75 · 46-50, M
Not only that... you can play and be Christian...
