Do you think the media hypes things for a political agenda?

Certain areas of certain media maybe.
But i don't think media plays as influential a role as some would have you believe.

We all learned to think for ourselves a long time ago.
The age of the press baron is dead.

You seem a reasonably intelligent person, but you have to know this isn't true for at least 60M+ just in the USA.

@daisymay Which is why i said 'certain areas'.
An abomination like Fox news exists. And while it does, that gives voice to those empowering Breitbart etc.

@JAYS21 but private news companies need to make profit no? and state run news can have propaganda?
SW-User
@JAYS21 where is the solution? Should we create laws that regulate how they present information?

i read today that 6 corporations owned 90% of the media. if that is not telling, i don't know what is
Maybe. News sources have always had political leanings though.
sure, but you need to look at how and why to make sense of it.

For example, commercial media is profit driven, and both advertisers and audiences influence what they cover and how they cover it. A political agenda is often part of that, but I think it's often overstated. They're often just chasing ratings and profits

Ahh, Yeah!
Journalism is dead.
Media is nothing more than propaganda anymore.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@SW-User I was born on the 50's.
By the time I was your age, things were already going South.
SW-User
@Budwick did they report rampant discrimination and segregation factually and unbiasedly?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@SW-User Interesting that you selected such a precise topic.
But yes, I think they did a good job reporting.
Back in the 60's when there was still actual racism,
the race riots were reported on, long film segments provided, followed by narratives from both sides.

I think news reporting is what gave movements Like Dr. King some traction.

Yes without a doubt

😲 our MSM ?
akindheart · 61-69, F
@TexChik LOL...
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
Yes. Depends though. Sometimes it's just for a nice juicy clickbait to get those views rolling in.
Pfuzylogic · M
It depends what country you are from.
Are you from the U.S. ?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
Depends on the form of media.
No doubt, considering that pretty much everything is political.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Absolutely. People think they're changing the world.

@daisymay however I do believe his comment is very broad and generalized.
SW-User
@daisymay he might have a point even though I might now like it. His concerns is that most news can be one sided. Even he does watch fox news then I would have to disregard that point unfourtunately
daisymay · 51-55, T
@SW-User
because that not word for word what im reading in his original comment.
Oh? Did you read "word for word" my comment where I ALSO said
or variation on that theme
literally immediately after the part you're dissecting? If not, allow me to string it together for you as originally written so that the context is more clear
plus when you come out of the gate with "all the media is leftist propaganda" or variation on that theme
See? It's not quite the affront you are attempting to have it be 🤷‍♀️
