Why is it?

Why can you announce there is a virus infecting a city that can kill you and you should avoid contact with people as much as possible because anyone you meet may very well be a carrier. People will ignore it for the most part and go on like it is an average day.
But you put ONE sniper on ONE building with ONE bullet and he will clear the streets for the most part.
Curious as to what kind of answers I will get to this.

Because it’s exaggerated by the media. Every health expert points that out every single day
@Bagalamaga You really and truly don't understand medicine and public health. Infections are TREATABLE. The symptoms are MANAGEABLE. Transmission of the virus can be MITIGATED. Public health risks can be REDUCED.

Treatment, management, mitigation, and risk reduction. Those are the objectives.

@quitwhendone it will circle the planet just like regular flu. It will appear, disappear then appear again after this pandemic is over. There will be a shot available eventually to prevent it. It will work sometimes, won’t work at other times. It will mutate, they will make stronger shots for it,then the whole thing repeats. I don’t need to be an expert to know that. There are many examples
@Bagalamaga Right now, the virus is brand new. So no one has any antibody immunity to it. Thus it will sweep through the population rapidly overwhelming hospital and healthcare resources.

The whole point of the mitigation effort is to SLOW DOWN transmission so that populations don't contract the virus and become sick at a rate that outpaces the healthcare infrastructure.

It is a PROVEN strategy. None of what is being recommended is made up. There are hard data to support EVERYTHING public health officials have recommended. Each and every infectious disease outbreak anywhere on the globe teaches epidemiologists new lessons.

Non scientists don't seem to believe what the scientists are saying because they have not seen the volumes of data collected and studied by learned experts, worldwide. There are epidemiologists and infectious disease physicians who have spent all of their adult lives studying and perfecting response strategies to these outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics.

Do you have a degree in a science? I suspect you don't which is fine but nonscientists really have little appreciation for what scientists do and their expertise gained from years and decades of tedious research, experimentation and experience. They really do know what they are talking about and doing.

most are not going to die from that virus but a sniper on the other hand

Tell that to the 50,000 families who have had loved ones die in. America@revenant

@GeorgeandGina Nowhere near that number die by sniper fire in the US. Out of all firearm deaths 2/3 are suicide, usually handgun, the vast majority of the rest are inner city gangs.
I bet though a few would still risk it. I feel that some people can’t be contained.

Because people only believe what they can see with their own eyes
I guess it makes the threat more realistic.
