Was this you as a kid? I miss those days.

I remember playing “kick the can” on summer nights, where it didn’t get dark until almost 10 pm.

@Carissimi And AFTER dark; not just on summer nights!

I can't even describe the scene when that merry go round was first installed in our neighborhood.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
"Graty" was the street game, and "murder ball", both played with tennis balls.
Peaches · F
I LOVE this,👀and the memories❣️🤗Thank you for the reminder.💫

How many can remember the stumps of burned-off iron railings everywhere? You didn't want to snag your knee or your bum on these things!

Glossy · F
@Gorps I remember being told that at the start of WW2, all the metal railings had been cut off and taken away to be melted down for “the war effort”. Then I heard that all the railings they had gathered together wouldn’t even make a tank and it was just an exercise to impress people that there was a war on.

We used to put elastic bands over an empty tissue box and use it as a musical instrument as we were poor. But we found ways to have fun.
traceavery · 70-79, M
@Travelbug that reminds me of the two tin cans and string for a phone!
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@Travelbug yeah same here!

My granddaughter asked me if they had sidewalks when I was a kid...
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@traceavery haha!
@traceavery Heck, they don’t even have sidewalks where I live now.

I never learned to ride a bicycle, we didn’t have those street lights yet except on highways, and the water game wasn’t invented until I was older.
They did have something like #4 in the park, but that’s really the only one I can relate to.

After we had played out in the yard a while my mom would bring out fresh lemonade and home made cookies. Those where the days.
it kinda amuses me that one of the bikes in the first image is a Y frame.
