What Better Way To Curb Cravings For A Food You Really Like, Than To SMELL It?!
An Oxford University professor has created a "meat patch" to help struggling vegans get through their bacon cravings.
The idea is that people who are attempting to cut down their meat consumption can scratch the patch, which is infused with the scent of bacon, in order to release the smell, which could help trick the mind.
"Studies have shown that scent can reduce food cravings," Professor Charles Spence said.
I had the same thought when I first heard this on the news, as someone is quoted as tweeting in the article..."this surely can't be an actual thing".

Smelling a food I’m craving makes me want it more, not less. 🤔
Piper · 61-69, F
@bijouxbroussard Well, that's what I was thinking, too. Most people who abstain from eating meat, did not not make that choice because they didn't like the smell of it cooking. 🤓

@bijouxbroussard Same here! In fact, just thinking about smelling food makes me want it more. Actually, just reading about...heck, I'm off to cook some bacon!

If I smelled cigarette smoke I'd wanna quit..again.

Not so sure about the food...
Piper · 61-69, F
@Elevatorpitches I can certainly understand about the smoke. Smelling it sure make me want to wanna quit...enough to actually DO it. 😑
@Piper contact me if u want a personal coach, I do this and I am better than 1-900- quitnow

A baker wanted people to pay for smelling the doughnuts.

I lke smell of meat ! Makes me hungry
BlueVeins · 22-25
That sounds like the last thing that would curb my cravings, but that's just me. If it works, it works. 🤷‍♂️
Piper · 61-69, F
@BlueVeins Yeah. Can't say I ever "struggled" much with meat cravings, myself, once I stopped eating any. I have no trouble recalling how much I liked bacon though, and if I had a craving for it...I can't imagine a scent patch would trick my mind.

That meat patch would be ineffective for me. A) I'm not vegan. B) I love the smell of meat while it's cooking.

Haha gimme the meat 🍖 ugg lol 🥳@Sapio
Piper · 61-69, F
@Sapio I can't personally see how it be would effective for anyone.
Sapio · 46-50, M
@Piper tbh me neither.

Oh! 😋 I'd just get hungry!
Piper · 61-69, F
@Peaches I did quite like bacon myself, and the smell of it cooking.
When I smell bacon my appetite isn’t assuaged. Not sure I buy the premise here
Piper · 61-69, F
@BiasForAction Mine wouldn't be, either. I've not forgotten how much I loved bacon...35+ years later.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@Piper So what do you think of Shemar Moore & Would You Do Him
Piper · 61-69, F
@JohnOinger Although I don't know who that even is..nah, I'd rather not.

Thank you so much, for your on topic contribution to this question! 🤪
JoePourMan · 61-69, M
As silly as this seems I'm sure there will be plenty who buy it
Piper · 61-69, F
@JoePourMan Could be. I haven't been able to find out for sure, how well the product actually sold.
Piper · 61-69, F
@TryingtoLava Bacon is, do you mean?
@Piper meat patch
Piper · 61-69, F
@TryingtoLava Okay, thanks. To me it just seems really goofy.

@RogueLoner That would definitely be one way to resolve a craving!
