If Americans call the autumn "fall", why don't they call the spring "rise"?

KiwiBird · 36-40, F
Because it is the only way they can remember how to reset their clocks when daylight savings starts. SPRING FORWARD, FALL BACK.
EstrellaStarr · 36-40, F
@KiwiBird What do you call it in New Zealand?
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@EstrellaStarr English Colony so Autumn for Fall and Spring like everyone else.
EstrellaStarr · 36-40, F
@KiwiBird I still think of it as being New Zealish. If that's not the correct word, what is the correct word?
curiosi · 61-69, F
Fall because the leaves "fall" off the trees. The trees are already standing they don't rise.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@curiosi this right here.
Because everyone, every culture is different, that's why. Names for various things may be different based on where you are in the world. I'm not American but I'm assuming that they've been calling autumn fall since the seasons were named, maybe 100 years ago?
EstrellaStarr · 36-40, F
@latinbutterfly I'm not saying they have no right to be different, but that doesn't mean I can't ask questions about it, does it?
@EstrellaStarr I didn't say you couldn't ask questions. That's one purpose of this site, right? 😉 I was giving my own explanation to the best of my ability.
EstrellaStarr · 36-40, F
I am American, and I've wondered the same thing.
But ... we also park in driveways and drive on parkways...

...and this coat is pink in the UK.

Just for the record - I have ridden horses a lot - but never to chase a fox. Or anything else.@Mamapolo2016
EstrellaStarr · 36-40, F
@Mamapolo2016 Horses are awesome.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
Spring because of planting time and plant life cycles. Springing from the ground. etc etc
popmol · 22-25, M
no the leaves fall! they don't rise again they grow
TexChik · F
Because ...,science
EstrellaStarr · 36-40, F
@TexChik Where I live it's the autumnal equinox.
TexChik · F
@EstrellaStarr well ... Brits and Americans Are separated by a common language
EstrellaStarr · 36-40, F
@TexChik I've already noticed that, that's why I post questions like this. Lol :)
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
Because we're retarded. :D I actually like "autumn" better.
And winter would be loser. 🤪
SW-User
Why would we do that? 🧐
DDonde · 31-35, M
Do the Brits not call it "Fall" too? 🤔
I wonder why I've never noticed that before.
No - it's autumn over there.@DDonde
EstrellaStarr · 36-40, F
@DDonde We've always called it autumn. This song was on the radio the other day (apparently it was the singer's birthday, and he's English):
