They hit that nerve. The one that actually works. The one that reaches our humanity, empathy, heart and soul.
Here's mine. I hear it, get very still and quiet. My wife once asked me why. I said because I don't want to disturb the angel that's singing.

@xixgun When I was in the fifth or sixth grade, we had to learn an entire song IN GERMAN. I believe the title was "You'll Never Know I Love You" (English translation). When we couldn't get the German accent right, she made us learn the English version. When we had that down pat, she returned to making us learn the German version again. We were never very good - and I made the mistake of mentioning the song at the dinner table. For weeks afterward, Grandma (who was German and Dutch) kept after me to sing it. I didn't want to, much - then.

It's the way we are. I still choke up when I sing :"God Bless America" or "America" or "Battle Hymn of the Republic".Even "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" does it to me.

Perhaps because music is a stimulus, it evokes many different kinds of sensations within us. Some trigger memories, both good and bad.

A lot of songs give me goosebumps. They make me cry. They understand.
