So, in a relationship, when can you actually bank on that "I Love You" being legit?

Is it a time frame? Is it the number of times said? Is it the situation in which it is uttered? Is it ever a sure thing? What do you think?

*inspired by FreeSpirit's question *

When they’ve seen the worst of you and continue to love and support you anyway.
EmilyEdith · 56-60, F
The number of times
you've found each others keys,
done each other's laundry,
Forgiven each other for a few awful things,
seen each other
hungry
sick,
poor,
broken,
10 lbs overweight, or completely happy...

That total number is your percentage of chance that when they say I love you, they mean it.

Start counting.

@EmilyEdith So totally fake too, if you don't mean it, why say it?
EmilyEdith · 56-60, F
@Wol62 exactly. Just wish me well. Enjoy the rest of your day, Etc.

@SW-User I'm just old and bitter. 😄
You're right, you just know it.
You can feel it.

After a shared trauma or tragedy, if one says they love you they do...make no exceptions.

Love isn’t captured by words.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@GallantlyChurlish But it can be expressed in words. Yes?
GallantlyChurlish · 46-50, M
In just three? Only if you know what’s backstopping them. @Tomorrow
Talk is cheap, if pretty. Show me.

@Mamapolo2016 Agree.
When you know, you know. All there is to it.

If it gets said to you when you're messy, dirty, sick, tired, etc then it's probably real. However, you can usually get a feeling if they're just saying words. I'm of a mind that actions speak louder though.
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
If they're still saying it on their death bed you can probably take it as read. Any time prior to that and actions speak far louder than words ever did. Go by how they make you feel, not by what they say.

when the other person starts to talk about their future and you are included.
TheFragile · 46-50, M
I felt it the first time she told me. I just knew it.
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
When you knew it before they said it.

When it feels true
Depends on the individual and circumstances. There’s no set formula.
