Someone called me a "twisted troll" for being abrasive in my opinion about something. I'm not sure if he really knows the meaning of "troll". I feel like people use the word too freely every now and then.
@Allelse 😂😂😂😂 Damn you got it all planned out lol. I have a large book of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. All the originals are supposed to be dark. I might read some later 😄
@Cinder Yep!! :D I figure it's good to have a plan for any possible catastrophy, like waking up in your bed one morning to find that you've turned into a troll! :O
Oh yeah! Very dark but alot of the old stories are. I remember how as a little kid my Nana would read me a story out of this big book of fairy tales, and once she finished reading me the story she'd go on to tell me the original, darker version! I miss my Nana. We used to watch horror movies together. I mean she'd be nearly a hundred by now, but still.
Trolling is all about being deliberately offensive for the sake of upsetting people because that’s fun for a troll. If you enjoyed whatever your abrasive opinion did to him, then you could qualify.
@SW-User Aww, then no, you don’t have the true makings of a troll in that interaction, lol. Maybe just a bit... vindictive. Do you ever get uncomfortable with how much people suck up to you though? I mean you had a lot of hearts.
SW-User
@Reject Those hearts don't mean they're sucking up to me though. But I'm uncomfortable with people who kiss my ass too much.
@SW-User True, it doesn’t necessarily mean sucking up, but it can. Maybe I just saw it as sucking up because it’s not like that was a positive conversation. If it was I’d see it as support.
Google says it's "a person who makes a deliberately offensive or provocative online post." IMO the provocative part is a little open-ended as that can cause a range of reactions from annoyance to anger. For me, I've used the term when someone is obviously looking for a reaction, like when it comes to certain political spammers on here. I can recognize legitimate points, but their conduct makes it such that they come across as a troll or something very similar to one as they are not looking for serious discussion.
I think if someone is out to deliberately antagonize people, they're a troll. If they come here just to piss people off and say "shocking" things, they're a troll.
But yes, people here often use "troll" to mean "person I disagree with" or "person who won the argument". Sometimes when I win an argument I get called a "liar" (whatever that even means. Not sure what I'm supposed to be lying about). It's the same type of thing. It's a deflection.
SW-User
@SW-User Well said 😄
SW-User
What dexter said. If not people who make obviously fake or retarded posts, like the dude who talkin about "nerd thighs" like he was about to go down on one like a drum stick.
Trolls are people who divert the context of something.
Maybe i use the word too liberally, but i find people who tease others with sarcasm or hilarious replies trollish, espcially when its supposed to be a serious discussion.
SW-User
@Tarxarin That’s a good way to put it. To sum it up, I think trolls are those who never take other people seriously
@SW-User this. Though we do have plenty that fit the old standard too.
SW-User
@SW-User Honestly, lots of people let themselves be pissed off by things that aren't intended to piss them off. And then they call us "trolls" because their feelings are hurt
SW-User
When ever I hear the word , a picture of those hideous creatures who hide under bridges. Lol That used to be the definition of a troll to me 😂
SW-User
@SW-User Lmao when I was new to the word, I thought of trolls from under the bridge as well
SW-User
Haha 👍️ Now I see there is a whole new meaning @SW-User
@SW-User He kept going on and on about some small grammar error that I had made on a post, and finally I had enough and told him that it was time for me to take out the trash 😂.
SW-User
@SubstantialKick 😂 Users like him are the sheeple of this place
