I think some are, but I think intelligence is less of an issue than strength. If a woman is seen as being strong (emotionally and/or mentally) men tend to back away. They often have natural tendencies to protect and rescue and feel less sure what to do with a woman in that case. That being said, a woman can be strong and still need someone to care. I have experienced this in several instances. I've also been called intimidating even though I don't believe I am.

@ravenwind43 To be honest I don't fully buy into the "bad treatment" in childhood excuse for bad behavior. From experience I know that it ultimately comes down to a choice as to how a person turns out when they grow up. I don't believe in the "that's all they knew" argument. Sure, they may have gone through and lived with hell...but there are still a lot of other good people and influences for them to observe, talk with, and learn from..so it is not "all" they knew. I was bullied, I grew up in a family that all but shunned me, I went through a lot of mistreatment from "friends" and from relationships and potential relationships. I could have just decided that I would retaliate by doing to other people what was done to me, but instead I chose to follow the influences of other good people and it lead me down the right path. I'm not boasting, just stating a truth.
Perhaps, but I believe that it's more in one's attitude. If they use intelligence to belittle a man (or a woman) then it can be intimidating...not because of the intelligence but because of they try to establish an advantage, thus causing the other to go into defense mode. Intelligence, strength, or any other "stronger" trait needs to be paired with compassion so as to be less intimidating and more constructive.

@ravenwind43 I still miss EP, except for EPAllie. Some of the people I most wanted to meet in person someday were on EP and never made it here.

No all men are, many men appreciate an intelligent woman...I do, my wife is an intelligent woman. I think what intimidates most men is if she treats him as a "lesser" person, patronizes him, talks down to him, etc. Especially if he isn't as intelligent or educated as she is. Nobody likes a "know-it-all" and if humiliation is added to the mix, they won't "win friends and influence people" very often or easily.
Not inherently. Certain men have been intimidated by women & other men, civilization catered to these men which was toxic to other men and women as a whole.
Marriage itself was created for these men to ensure all men had at least one woman and then we started living in separate homes as couples no longer in close communities which messed up work, raising children and equality
