Why do people walk around with no shoes on and then complain when they step on something sharp?

Why don't they realise that they wouldn't feel it if they wore shoes?

I'm barefooted a lot.My feet are very tough.One time I accidentally walked through broken glass.I just heard the crunch looked down as my friend told me what I had done,brushed off the soles of my bare feet with my hands,not even any tiny mark on my soles,and walked on.

@Roy1980 Gym built goddess.
That's a metaphor for how a lot of people run their entire lives.
@Callmyname People get themselves into patterns of acting in particular ways just to receive particular treatments by others. These are the workings of codependency. Someone may (even unconsciously) set herself up to be with someone who hurts her, just so she can continue receiving sympathy from others about her situation. She may have learned, at some point in her life, that she can find the intimate connections she craves through that sympathy. So for her, she continues walking around with no shoes on by continuing to be with her abuser, just so she can keep complaining and getting her intimacy needs met by others.

@Callmyname I was trying to explain the metaphor.

and while we're at it, why doesn't she wear her shoes in bed? It would be comfortable I bet.

Well, why do you leave sharp things lying around the house?
