Does the abortion debate infuse religion into government which are supposed to be separate?

Or is it the other way around.

Yes, the abortion debate is largely framed on religious grounds. However, religious individuals are allowed to have a voice just as non religious individuals are allowed. The separation of church and state is about keeping the organizations of church and government separate. There are churches that support abortion rights as well as churches that obviously oppose it, so it’s not like there’s a single religious organization that’s solely responsible for spearheading the pro life movement.

@SW-User very true, I do think state abortion law should have to be by referendum to remove political corruption from the equation.

I don’t think religion comes into it, but morality, or ethics, do. Many people have, personally, a strong opinion about abortion, one way or another. Governments and parliaments have to try and find some way of legislating and regulating matters which respects both points of view, and which is not impracticable. They may come down broadly on one side or the other, but they can’t ignore the opposition.

No, morality is not necessarily religion.
Yes because the arguments are often based on belief systems.
