Has society and technology made certain senses less "essential" to survival?

I like your questions.

I think society and technology have reduced the need for proprioception (sense of where we are in space) and generally physical senses of our bodies beyond basic touch.

We sit here sensing things, living behind our eyes and in front of screens seeing motion and hearing sounds but not moving and I think it makes us insane on a physical level. I think it's why people who have all basic needs met and want for nothing are cutting themselves and writing depressing and poorly composed poetry.
