Madman with Godlike superpowers incapable of understanding why he's wrong (Thanos)

A madman with Godlike superpowers incapable of understanding why he's wrong (a la Thanos)...
Or a normal man with sociopathic tendencies understanding that he's wrong but incapable of ever truly feeling Human (a la Joker)?
A little context: My brother and I got in an argument about who the more terrifying supervillain is: The Dark Knight Trilogy Joker (A normal man with no superpowers, just an incredible intellect and monstrous mind who is well aware that he is nothing but evil) or Thanos (a nigh-omnipotent godlike alien madman and conqueror incapable of seeing his own evil). I personally say Joker is more terrifying simply because he's just a man. And men can do some pretty horrific things even without superpowers. Plus the fact that a man knows he's evil and continues it is just terrifying. My brother says Thanos because...Thanos.
I'm curious what others think.
