The Roman Empire jumped the shark when it became Christian.

What kills me is the way rulers could just decide a whole country was going to follow one religion. OK, Constantine wanted to be Christian. Fine. But that wasn’t enough - he decided *everybody* had to be Christian.

I guess I took that “separation of church and state” thing too seriously.

No, not really. There was a sinister reason that Rome embraced the cult of Christianity and fell. Many of the population had heavy metals in their heads from the drinking water tainted with mercury and lead. Christianity was the result of dimished mental capacities by the populace so it is of no wonder that they saw holy ghosts.
